Hi I found this this vintage B/W photograph of Elvis at our local thrift store. It is of him in uniform. It also has what I think is the negative number bottom right corner. The photo has silver metallic in it and also some goldish brownish highlights. I do not know if this caused by the deterioration. I am not sure if this is a silver gelatin photograph or what. I found this image on Elvis's official site. So I am hoping you all may have some info on it or just thoughts. it is a great piece. Size is 8x10.

Thanks that is cool. Im still tying to figure this one out.

You can always contact his first cousin (Patsy Presley Geranon). My Uncle Steve used to date her back in the 1970s (that is how we got a tour of Graceland and got to meet Elvis). I think right now, she is actually selling Elvis's old Army Uniform.

First thing I would do is take it out of the frame (carefully) and look for any other markings on the back of it. It looks like a period print, the back should help determine that.

May date to the mid-1950's when he was stationed in Germany...

Elvis was first stationed in Germany in 1958--till March of 1960. On October 1, 1958 he was attached to the 3rd Armored Division.
But the patch he wears is of the 2nd Armored Division:

When Elvis went to Germany he was first assigned to the 2nd Armored Division. The picture was therefore taken in 1958 before his reassignment to the 3rd Armored Division on Oct. 1st; and based on the awards he is wearing on his chest,my guess is the pic was taken closer to Oct. of 1958 than when he entered Army in March of 1958.
Don......

In '58 he was also stationed at Fort Hood, TX which is where he PCS'd to Germany from.

I am not an Elvis fan at all... But being assigned to Fort Hood i seemingly always used to hear about his time there, trumped only by all the history of the nuclear weapons bunkers.

(Both being actually true.)

Wikipedia says that he was granted leave from Hood to go see his dying mother - perhaps the photo was taken then?

Oh, and 'Old Ironsides' (1st AD) beats 2nd AD (Hell On Wheels) and 3rd AD (Spearhead) anyday![emoji38]
