Found this little car in an area where we were popping 1930's and 40's coins and at about the same depth. To me it looks like a little vintage car but I can't seem to find it on the net. The only marking is the letters ADE on the underside. Any of you experts have any ideas? Is it an el cheapo? I believe it is aluminum. 8)

Looks like you guessed it a long time ago Big cypress Hunter! Because of the late hours while researching, I didn't even look at Tootsie because of the ADE lettering. So as I mentioned earlier - this is exactly my car but I still wonder about the authenticity because of the missing Letters "M" and "IN THE USA". NGE is there any way you can take a snapshot of the car in your book? Looks like the people on e-bay don't know what they are selling! Should I call this thread solved and be thrilled it is a 1947 Tootsie Toy? Thanks all - for pointing me in the right direction! Looks like I ended up with the find of the day!

Thanks NGE...but that looks like the little Blue car Big Cypress posted...Mine doesn't have the exhaust pipes. So all I have is the pics on e-bay that look like mine.

I guess yours is a Tootsietoy because the underneath was also pictured on e-Bay with "Tootsietoy Made in USA". But what year is yours without exhaust pipes and does your lettering not showing make it a variation? It is not the '47. Is yours older or from the 50's? NGE does your book show another? Cool pics.

Well, I know a horse has 4 legs, but I have seen one with only 2! I think that's the gist of the debate?

Finally got a decent pic of the lettering underneath my "Tootsie Toy". Any experts out there that can help me? I want to know if this is authentic...or a die error...what year (even though ebay says 50's)...anything! Thanks all who have replied!

Here ya go Jellybone,1949-54 Tootsie Racer. This is from 3rd edition collectors guide to Tootsietoys. The lack of the "m" and the word tootsietoy is due to a flaw in the casting. Cool car!!!

Way to go Jerry, shoulda known I could count on a guy from Ohio since I was born in Cincinnati! Thanks so much...mystery solved! I wonder if the casting flaw makes it more or less valuable. So it was the find of the day!
