Vintage 30's 40's? Cardboard Standee from Estate Auction Wild Bill Hickok?

First I have to say for years I have been on here reading metal detecting finds and then the garage sale finds. I have totally enjoyed this site and the many forums. Today, I finally registered as a member. I bought this a few years back at an estate auction and stuck it in the rafters of the garage. The estate was of a professional photographer with 1800's cameras up to the 80's. Good quality and high end cameras. This came up and no one wanted it. It has to be some sort of standee advertising for color tint of some sort. The color as odd as it is, was not done by a kid it was purposely put there. It has the Wild Bill Hickok look, but not him. Any ideas as to what company and purpose this was used for advertising? Thanks!

Definitely a Hickok/Custer type pose, but the face doesn't look right, like it has been added, and did you notice the hat? Looks like a fireman's hat. Would love to know the story behind this prop.

American by birth, Patriot by choice.

I would rather die standing on my two feet defending our Constitution than live a lifetime on my knees......

I don't think it's a fireman's hat. I think it's just a bad tint job. I have many vintage postcards that are taken from hand tinted photographs such as this one.

Back in the 50s, you could go to certain amusement parks where 'staged sets' would be set up with headless characters; maybe you still can.)The customer would walk behind the 'set' and place his head in the 'headless' set. Then a pic would be taken and given to the customer some time later. Perhaps these 'cut outs' were made in a similar manner.
Don.....

This whole thread has me laughing and also quite impressed with the knowledge of many of you. Good stuff!

It's some guy's head superimposed on an old photo of Buffalo Bill Cody.

Kinda, sorta looks like Earl Scheib:

How funny, Ol' Earl Scheib. I had a 67 Camaro painted Black at that heck of a price deal by an ES paint shop, but If memory serves me it was any car any color at $59.95. It came out looking real good. With some Mick Thompson wide tires on the rear, mounted on some Crager mags and some traction bars. I had a real mean machine, or so it seemed to me?

This might be nothing more than a WAG, but I am betting that it is a mock up for a salesman, as in he is "taking aim" at giving the best prices in town or the county sort of thing. I am thinking car salesman. His face is obviously imposed onto the cut out and it is a bad tint job as others have pointed out.

You know, I was just thinking, the estate of a professional photographer and a collector.... I would bet money that the guys face is of the photographer/collector of the estate. He very well could have made or had it made to advertise himself! Or it may have been a joke on him or something like that. but i bet it is of the original estate holder.

My experience was not as good. I paid my 59.95 picked out a color for my 1956 Chevy
This is the color I wanted
