Some times you find something, that simply makes you stop and wonder. This find certainly did that. It's the pommel from a Viking sword. Wonder what happened to the viking warrior who owned it. I would guess it was probably buried with him, in the soil of Yorkshire, sometime around the 10th century. Did he die in battle with the Saxons, or from some other cause. The answer is, there's no way of knowing. The pommel looks a little sad now, you can still see though faint silver wire decoration. When new the sword would have been an object of great beauty. If you were unfortunate enough to find yourself on the wrong end, deadly. The other key like find, came from a few feet away. It could be part of the burial, or un connected. Robert.

The other Viking pommel I found, I posted Feb. 13th 2010, title sword pommel. 2010 !!!! time flies. Robert.
