By the way...where are you? Or I guess I should ask, where did you find this, America? England? Norway? or did I miss this part... :-\

Sounding more like a shipwreck or coastal village site, Have you checked for more relics?

neil
I missed that too. What country are you digging in?

BTW Your question poll doesnt seem to be complete. Which is yes and which is no? It is not marked.

Wasn't there woven material at the Oak Island Treasure pit site? If you don't already have a metal detector get one and keep digging.I'm from NFLD and used my detector back there quite a bit...found some nice items.Remember people didn't trust banks back in the old days and many fishermen didn't make it back..more than a few money stashes buried I bet. EDIT: I'm assuming from his profile name NEWFY-viking that he's from there...site of the only known viking settlement in the new world at Lanse Aux Meadows on the northern tip of that province.

Oh..Well then...I'd say the chance if it being Viking just went up a tad... ;D

Spanish? You sure? The Portugese whaled the northern waters around the Bay of Fundy ("Fundy" being based on Rio Fundo - Portugese for "Deep River") from around the time of the Virgina Colony in the Americas or earlier.

Looks early, anything on the Back?

Is it 1 piece or 2 piece construction?

I think it came off this old dagger handle.

Is this allowed on TN? It seems this behavior was a problem a while back.

You think the button came of that handle ???

1st I'd suggest posting under one name....way less confusing...since you don't know what these items are having Viking and Spanish posts is a little silly. That "dagger" handle could possibly be native,if so if it's beothuck that could be quite a find.

sorry bout that I'll post under hmmm , i did it because all the stuff i found came from the west coast. This creates a problem because the vikings never made it to the west coast, there for it discredits what i say. But because the stuff is overlaping history this will not work. :'(

That changes some things...I think everyone thought you were in Newfoundland...because of your original name newfyviking. Great finds regardless of where they are from.

If you found it at the beach, it could be a spike used to hold up a volleyball net.
