Vieques Island Puerto Rico

There is a rumor that there is a pirate's treasure buried somewhere on MT Pirata. on Vieques PR
Is that the Mountain with the observatory on it? Or it was in 1972,some kind of building like that. Most of Vieques was long a Marine Training Area, live fire and gun ranges for everything from handguns up to 5 inch Naval Rifles, artillery up to 105mm,all manner of small arms and mortars,Tank guns, machine guns, the ground is literally crawling with bits and shards of metal, iron, lead and copper, along with brass by the ton. If it,s on the other end of the island you might have a chance.I was there three times but never heard of any treasure.

Dug out an old map and Mt.Pirata is on the other end of the Island from the big former ranges. Only problem is it,s in a conservation zone and was once a Naval munitions storage area.Probably not going to allow any digging there.

Sorry I am seeing this years later.....Did you ever find the info on Mount Pirata??? .... because.... I know a little about the story and I have been up there many times and even hiked the mountain hacking away at the jungle for hours and hours looking for the pirate's cave.....we were close....but the day was getting long. Today there is a path that would get you a lot closer to the peak where his cave was suppose to be.

Cofresí met with mayor Francisco Brenes, offering him 4,000 pieces of eight (which he claimed to possess) in exchange for his freedom

Cofresí confessed to capturing a French sloop in Vieques; a Danish schooner; a sailing ship from St. Thomas; a brigantine and a schooner from eastern Hispaniola; a sloop with a load of cattle in Boca del Infierno; a ship from which he stole 800 pieces of eight in Patillas, and an American schooner with a cargo worth 8,000 pieces of eight (abandoned and burned in Punta de Peñones).

So his claims of 4000 it not outside the realms of possible.

But the problem is many locations hold promise. Monito island, Mona island, Caja de Muertos. Asd well as the hide out he set up on Isla de Vieques.
