Hello,

I have not been on the forum for a while. How is everyone? I am posting today because I found something rather unusual while I was exploring my front yard.

So in our front yard, we have this pine tree. The Pine trees branches go all the way to the ground. Just out of curiosity, I looked under the branches right on the ground near the trunk of the tree. I found something odd, but amazing. I am attaching a picture.

I found what looks like fossilized bones. A whole lot of very large ones. About 10 pieces. I have no idea what kind of bones they are, but a friend of mine who is a rockhound confirmed that they were bones. Here is a picture of all the bones I found.

If you need a close-up of each one, I will get them.

What do you think? Are they bones?

Any help identifying will be appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you very much. It is exciting. Tomorrow the fossils are dropped off at a museum in Utah. They will be analyzed there. I will learn what they are soon. I will keep you all updated.

On another note, me and my brother and a friend of mine are going to a place near Murphy Idaho, where there are a bunch of sand concretions. Last time I went there, I found a few shell fossils in the sand concretions. We are going there again today.

As for the fossilized bones, I will keep you updated. Tomorrow should be the day.

One thing I forgot to mention. I am finding a lot of petrified wood and shell fossils in my backyard also. They are all over the place. Sometimes they are by the shed, sometimes are by the fence, sometimes they’re under a pine tree like with the fossilized bones. I do not know why am finding so many fossils at this house. Most of it is petrified wood. My neighbors also have a lot of petrified wood and some of those bone fossils. I’m going to let them know that they have that stuff in their yard.

Does South Idaho have a history of these kinds of fossils?

If I were you I would dig in the area where you found the bones. If those are fossilized bones then there are likely to be more fossils below ground.

Hello,

So the fossils were taken to a paleontologist in Utah. My mother and father just got out of a meeting with them. It turns out that these are not fossils. This is sand stone. It turns out that Idaho was once part of a large river bed a long long time ago. The marrow that you see is actually water erosion. The paleontologist also said, “these were REALLY deceptive. It really did look like fossils, but I could tell by the weight and the texture that they were not fossils, but Sandstone.“

I will give more details when I get the full story from my parents.

Well, it’s still a very interesting find!
