Negative is basically for hot rocks and or bricks or tiles that are buried in the ground....these things can make the detector unstable

Or look at it as 2 separate scales instead of 1.........0-99 is the metal scale and -.1 to -6.4 is the mineral scale

So, if bricks and hot rocks are not an issue in my area, then it doesn't do any good or any harm to go less than 0?

I don't think it hurts....from what I've read going negative helps with iron wrap around as well....i haven't messed with it much

I'm thinking - disc will shine in heavy iron or at old foundations.....

Here is the verbiage direct from the Deus website on negative discrimination. Just as Tedyoh alluded to, these low numbers help a person to identify ferrous items and aid in picking up deep targets as well. I noticed the negative discrimination is set on the new "Hot" program. As for me, this was way too much chatter which I am not used to. So I just changed my discrimination to 10 and it made the Deus much easier on the ears. Other than that I am loving this program. Works really well.

A little bit offtopic with my questions but

1.Whats the point of having 3-4-5 tones and have the first tone 0disc(202hz), second 0-10disc(202hz) etc. Why do people start with first tone with just 0 and have the next one from 0-10 with same hz ? Like gary's ultimate and many others.
2.Can you have discrimination 1 and still use full tones, and wouldn't you get the standard horseshoe back this way ?
3.Will -6.4 disc give anymore depth with 4.0 ?

Not sure why Gary sets it up like that, he even states it a 2 tone program, no idea.
You can run full tones with any discrimination setting, not sure what you're asking about the horse shoe though.
Haven't messed with - disc yet, my guess would be if it does it would be very minimal.

1. Dunno what the logic is. Not what I would do. Andy would not even set it up that way and he is a 5 tone guy (not full tone guy).

2. Yes. The tones in the discrimination range you set are just silenced (though the horseshoe will light up with ferrous hits even when silenced/the standard horseshoe works regardless of the disc setting. From my experience, the horseshoe is not disabled at 0 disc or -6.4 disc even though that is what people have been told. Andy Sabisch maintains that the horseshoe display becomes "unstable/unreliable" for Disc settings less than about 5. I believe this applies to both 3.2 and 4.0, however, I have not experienced the instability he is referring to.

3. No. Depth is unaffected until you set Disc above 10 or so.
