I was given a Whites Goldmaster V/sat, and I also own a Compass AU52, how well would these work for finding coins? And what would be a good starting point on the Whites controlls be? The V/sat seems alot more sensitive, and more difficult to set up. The Compass doe's have the trash out controll which helps. also I am detecting in my yard with alot of power lines nearby, will the lines make it more difficult to get these detectors to remain tuned in? and do any of you use your gold detectors for coin hunting ?
Thanks in advance!

Well, I have a VSAT and can tell you from expericence that trying to hunt coins in the yard is very hard. It is way too sensitive for yard hunting unless you want to have no mercy and go for deep coins. I found the screw out of someones eye glasses oneday but that was in the dirt, imagine yourself trying to get that screw out of a clump of sod. As for the other detector, I have no knowledge. Hope this helps.

As IronMike pointed out VLF gold machines are geared toward very small objects. Coin machines are low frequency(geared toward depth) while gold machines are high frequency geared toward finding small low conductivity objects. I have a later version the GMT which has a ferrous % but with no discrimination controls? I won't think about using it for coins. I know nothing about the compass model,

Some folks use? high frequency VLF gold machines at the beach looking for small gold items where they can dig it all,

Thanks for the replys, looks like a have a good excuse to get a coin machine now!!!
