USA B17 Crash & My first Viking Halfpenny-UPDATE ID

Land-Mag managed to get another new farm (along with a couple of others for after harvest ::) ). This farm is next to the crash site of the B17 we have been doing, trying to return interesting parts to the surviving relatives in the US.

I was detecting on my own for about 3.5 hours in pretty deep Wheat crop :P

Only a few B17 bits, none that interesting.
2 Crotal Bells
2 Bronze slag pieces (Ancient)
Medieval belt Decor
3000 Bronze Age Dirt fragment :icon_thumright:

In the last 25 minutes I changed fields & wandered to a spot I was being pulled to, it was a little odd to be honest. Anyway found something I've had on my Wish List for some time. I even brought an example to plug that impossible gap :laughing7:

Viking cut halfpenny of one of the most famous Viking Kings of England:

CNUT - 1029-1035AD

I'm just about to start celebrating :occasion14: :occasion14: :occasion14: :occasion14:

Cheers everyone :hello:

Re: USA B17 Crash & My first Viking Halfpenny

:coffee2:

Although early cut half hammered are found quite regulary in large numbers, early Saxon, Viking and Norman coins are a different matter, I would have thought it a bit harder to get a cut half, than finding the full coin...again Great Find :icon_thumleft:

I thought the same, its as early as you are likely to find (cut), & a very valid point :hello2:

I know you don't sell...but should you wish, the going rate for a cut half is 10% of the full coins price...plus a Β£100 :icon_thumleft:

Re: USA B17 Crash & My first Viking Halfpenny

Excellent historic recoveries Cru!! If we dig a Viking coin in Tennessee, loook for us on the History Channel. HH, Quindy.

The more I look the more that comes to light about this series, I don't recall another reign were a short cross and a voided long cross, were used on the reverse :dontknow:

Medieval good Silver ... crotal bells although both are good too.
Greetings ! :headbang:

Re: USA B17 Crash & My first Viking Halfpenny

Very excellent digs, but the best part of the of story (to me) is the fact that you are actively searching for those bombers. In hopes of recovering and returning identifiable items to the families of the men whom more than likely lost there lives in all those crashes. To many planes (both English and American) limped back from Europe all shot to hell... only to crash and burn back in England. So my hats off to you my friend..... :notworthy:

Re: USA B17 Crash & My first Viking Halfpenny

Congrats on the Viking cut halfpenny Cru! :icon_thumright:
As well as helping to return identifiable items to
the American families of the B17 bomber! :notworthy:

Re: USA B17 Crash & My first Viking Halfpenny

My Dad flew 33 bombing missions out of Shipdham England with the 8th Army air corp. Bombed Berlin and the oil refineries and many key targets including 2 low level bombings on D-Day under Doolittle. The odds of the planes coming back were slim at best. They used to win awards for the most shot up plane. Flag Magnet ,Feudin Wagon and many famous ships they would fly one day and then that ship would be shot down the next with another crew. Great work on recovering the items from that time in history. Those men were a breed apart. How they loved to be rained and fogged in some days to NOT have to fly. It was a hard glory those men won.
Regards,
TnMtns
