USA airplane crashed during Salerno's battle.

These are pieces of a USA airplane crashed on a hill near Salerno during battle of Operation Avalanche 9-21 september 1943. Someone can help us to identify airplane? Thanks.

There are also some 12,7 bullets with printing: M 42, L 42, DM 42, KS 42.

Allied heavy bombers and support aircraft from all over the place supported the operation... have not found any list of supporting aircraft yet.

My dad was at Salerno in 43. I remember hearing him speak of the place, ...and Anzio.

We maybe can trace the patent number if you give it too us. The pics are too dark to read or partials.

Can you please spell out the part that says "General Electric" and "AMP 200". The model number is too difficult to read in the photos.

These are interesting items but you really need to give us better pictures taken in daylight, that are not cropped off, so we can read the items in their entirety. Its like you are giving us a pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. If you cannot take a better pic, than you need to print out the writing on each item exactly as you see it. Thank you.

the general electric switch/relay was used on many Boeing aircraft.

where are the plates off the engine(s). those id plates can settle the topic.

i agree the photos leave everything to the imagination, and not one step towards solving this topic.

i can only find one armed Boeing aircraft used in europe...B-17...should be a bunch of weapons/engine parts lying about?

Today we return to place of crash and find other material and this button. If it was on airplane perhaps the planes can be a A-20? Is possible to know if there are B-25 and\or A-20 crashed in Salerno in 9-21 september 1943? Thanks. I hiope to post better photos.

You need to repost the first pictures please. We can help you but we need to able to read the writing in its entirety. I dont know why your pics are so dark. Try using better lighting, a darker background or outside in daylight.
I tried to lighten it but still cant read it all. Do you understand?

i wonder why they believe it is a two engined bomber?
yes B-25's were in the area, so were A-20's, B-24's, and a whole lot of B-17's...plus the P-47's p-51's... maybe a P-60
the ammo narrows it down to a us aircraft...but...

The only Boeing aircraft in the European theater would have been the B-17 Flying Fortress, C-73 Transport, C-75 Transport, or the B-314 Seaplane. I'm only focusing on Boeing since they did little or no part manufacturing for other aircraft manufacturers and you have an item with a Boeing tag.

From www.nasm.si.edu . Part 33D5233 is a Link Assembly-Bomb Shackle specified by the USAAF on 04/26/33.
So we are likely looking at a bomber.
