Hey guys, I am having trouble narrowing this down. I am finding identical items to mine online where people say they were dug on other Civil War battlefields. I found mine on a well traveled road used in the Union escape about a mile from the Wilson Creek battle. Some people say these are as recent as WW1. Maybe I don't want to accept that these may not be Civil War era, I just struggle with them not being from that time when the history and location all add up to them being Civil War. What do you guys think? Worst case scenario I will take them to the museum there and ask the historians. Any help appreciated. 20180626_111103.jpeg20180626_111032.jpeg

Spanish American up until 1942. Not Civil war era. I dug these from the trash pits of the 6th calvary in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga before the hwy went through.. Front and backs. Click picture to enlarge. They are good finds. Anything stamped U.S rocks. Happy 4th!

I was going to Mention the Ft Oglethorpe / Chickamauga area as Civil War & Later Military relics overlap.

My Buddy in the Ringold area has dug Enfield , 3 ring Minnie's , & a Great Seal Button all in the same area.

'As stated "ill take those relics any day".

I do believe that my find was a bit newer than the Civil War now after everybody rang in with their research and finds. I better keep looking for the older stuff that I know is there.

Age does not diminish your find at all. Actually now detecting War World II in Europe is all the rage. My finds were in trash pits digging with shovels no detectors. I wish I had kept more of it and gone back more often.

Hey great finds. Did you hunt the open pits behind the VFW? I have a permission over on private property near Wilders Tower and we dig C.W and 6th calvary. The pits even had their broken dishes marked the 6th and so many rounds of ammo. I did not keep much then. Wish I had of. Glad to see the museum getting support.
Nice finds. We may hunt some of the same areas but I have never seen another detectorist out in my permissions.Happy 4th

Sounds like the same area, I have some dish pieces marked with the 6th Cavalry but never was able to get a whole one tho.

I love hunting chickamauga area. Only place I know where I can find relics from 3 wars in the same day.
My last hunt I pulled .45/70 army brass and fired .45/70's from spanish american war within feet of 3-ringers and WW1 brass collar insignias.

Yes sir but make sure you never cross into the main park or you will loose your truck all your gear and make the news.

No worries there. That fence is clearly marked and it's marked on my gps, too.
Anyone found on wrong side with their gear, didn't get there by "accident."
