My friends and I usually hunt indian artifacts but lately have been
taking our metal detectors with us just in case a chance to use
them arises. After a fairly unproductive artifact hunt we decided to try
other fields. At that point we noticed a field where we have hunted artifacts
in the past was unplanted except for the tall grass that had grown over the summer.
Remembering all the broken china, bricks, and other "junk" that we've found
here--we decided to try our detectors. My second signal was my FIRST Civil
War artifact that I've ever found. She isn't pretty but I love her---a US belt plate!
I didn't get an in-situ as I had left the camera in the van......This is a photo
of it after a light cleaning with water and a soft toothbrush.
I walked it back to the van for safe keeping and returned to detecting. I picked up my camera at this point, We found lots of horseshoes. I also mamaged an Indian Head cent
and what I believe is a stirrup.
Thanks for looking.
