Yea, that was me, but I didn't get anything in reguards to U.S. Base regulations. My thing is I was really big into Indian Artifact digs in Texas and now I'm going to Germany. All I have heard is that there is WWII stuff and Roman stuff that you can get. I know I will go through withdrawl if I sit on my butt, I got to crave my addiction to the physical history
E-mail the base PMO for details. They are usually very happy that you asked instead of causing a fuss with the local law enforcement. Here is the web site for Bamberg they can probably give you the info that you need.
I don't know about Germany, but I was stationed in Spain for 3 years and the Base itself
was Spanish own and terratory, and anything dealing with what you could or could not do
on base was controled by the "SOFA" agreement or "Status OF Forces Agreement"
What area are you going to? I have detected some on bases over here in Germany but I perfer off base. If you end up on this side if Germany ,I can always use a hunting partner. I am about an hour from Rhein Main at Frankfurt so any where in this area is fairly close.Good luck. Lots of history here. From WW2 to Napoleon and even Roman. Hope you end up close.I am at Ramstein AB .HH
Good stuff ,the winters arepretty cold but from February to November is hunting weather. I started last February and it was nice because all the grass was dead.It is hit or miss untill April due to snow.
I was stationed in Baumholder the last 3 years I was in the Army, getting out in 2001. Anyway, I done tons of detecting on post there and never had anyone say anything to me. As you may or may not know, the main football/track field was one of Hitlers largest parade grounds and I had the luck to be there when they tore the entire field up to resod and lay new track. I was out there for almost 2 months in the mud detecting. Found a nice nazi badge I have been unable to identify, lots of silver predating the nazis (I think there was an old homestead on that site at one time) and tons of other neat things. I have searched all over that post and found LOTS of American silver including probably a dozen or more Walking Liberty Halves, lots of standing liberty quarters, dimes etc. Lots of 1 pfennig nazi coins as well as foreign coins dating back to the early 1800's. It was a very interesting place to detect and I seemed to be the only one doing it. Anyway, I would just detect until someone says something. Thats what I did and the whole 3 years, never had anyone say anything to me other than the people interested in what I was finding including some higher ranking officers.
Hello guys, This is my first time ever on a forum so this is all new to me. I have been following your forum for some time now and I would love to share with you some of the stuff I've found around Heidelberg.
I spent the last two months on the hills surrounding Heidelberg looking for signs of the siege that took place here in 1622. So far I have located two major trench's that are littered with lead bullets. The problem is that there is no way to be certain that they are from this time frame. Do you know any site that might have information on dating bullets? I will attach some pictures of them later as mine are too large right now for the size allowed.
I too am looking for some people to go hunting with. If anyone is in the Heidelberg area and would like to join me please feel free to contact me.
One last thing that I wanted to mention the treasure that I found on Campbell Barracks in Heidelberg. I did not find it with a metal detector, but I still think that it might spark some interest. Let me know if you all are interested.
Front page of the Christmas Whites Owners Club Newsletter (free from Whites in the U.K.) has 6 months of finds that Tim Wise an American in Germany has made. Over 380 bronze Roman coins, 2 silver, 1 celtic, 1 gold, a bronze age dagger + countless post 1876 coins, spurs, thimbles, buttons etc. This was never having detected before.
