Nice bright day but the wind must have taken it down to -4. Spent just over 4.5 hours (9 man hours) on the field.

I got 2 cut hammered coins, which means although I never got 1 last outing, I have had 5 for 5.

Jan's totals:
11 hammered
51 Roman Bronzes
3 Roman Silver
301 buttons

A great start to 2009.

The pottery piece has the Meissen crossed swords mark of 1725-1732
A nice Victorian Railway button, Lead medieval button, livery button & possible silver blob tudor button.
Dad found an early broken silver thimble, which he had found the top of a few trips ago.
9 Scrappies

My fav find an ornate 15th Century annular buckle - new variant for me & complete :)

You find the coolest sh%% I have ever seen. The history you dig up is out of this world. Much luck to you, hope to make it over the pond one day and dig a little bit of that history up myself. Until then just keep on digging and posting. JYD.

Another successful hunt and very interesting finds. Thanks for sharing them with us again.

Just love reading about your hunts and seeing the pics. Thanks for sharing with us....Matt

Cheers, we normally have a start like yours because of the lack of ploughed fields. We are just lucky that our 2nd Fav was too wet to plant. Although I know some of the fields we found last year might change the name of this one

Great finds! I have a certain penchant for buckles and that buckle is a great example!

Thanks, its a lucky survivor in this ploughed field! I found it just in time to include it in my buckle display that I'm doing for the local museum. I will be taking out the button display (which has been there 5 years) & replacing it with many different buckles from all periods. I now have a big enough range to do this well.

Nice finds and congrats on the hammereds! Is that part of a spur in the mix? HH, Mike

WoW, very nice results once again! I really like the annular buckle also. Keep at it, finds like yours keep the rest of us going until the ground thaws.

Cheers! :coffee2:

Amazing digs as always!! Ice and snow as far as the eye can see here.

Hi Cru, well its been freezing here for the past three days, yesterday was finally sunny so went
on the bike to downtown, almost froze up, like you say, too much wind, and the wind chill is
high. So no hunting for a while yet. Today is cold also, a bit of snow this morning.

I am standing on my tiptoes waiting to see what Shaun finds today!!

Nice finds again, two hammered is great, 365 would be neat for 09'. The buckle is great too.

What is 'a' in this photo? Looks like a piece of a roman cosmetic grinder to me.
And is 'b' a sort of plumb bob?

Just about to amend the button total. Dad had two in his pouch from yesterday.

Top item is part of a spur, & bottom is a Sexfoil (Med. Belt decor).

Yeah, see Woodys item a.

Your total finds for January is amazing.
The crossed swords mark was introduced 1724 and there are various forms.
Can you show a pic of the crossed swords.

Bearing in mind it is our most populated button field.
