Getting closer. Didn?t find a point, but found a nice thick little scrape tool and to the top of a knife. Follow the roots and I typically find stuff stuck to them. I actually took a pic of this location this time. Thanks for a look ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623684946.353105.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623684962.617488.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623684976.089377.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623684988.770790.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623685004.922087.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623685018.147517.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623685035.256987.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623685054.010437.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623685078.730806.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623685093.631572.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623685115.720922.jpg

Nice finds. I love the area and the variety of flint you find there. Thanks.

Thank you Tdog....eastern Ky is a beautiful place. Ticks are really rough right now too. I paid the price for going in the jungle this morning. Sprayed down , still ended up with around 30 of the little seed sized ticks. ....terrible. But the chert is awesome. Was hoping to find a point as always, but I am happy for the tools I recoveredImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1623692413.581251.jpg

Yep. Nasty little ticks! Met my lighter

Beautiful material

Thanks for checking it out, really pumped to pull some ancient tools up from under the roots of a huge hemlock growing out of the the dripline in this overhang. Learning, these roots have had pretty much the best pieces caught up in them. At least in this particular spot. Always work all around these roots in overhangs and dwellings...catch all

That's awesome. I want to hunt some overhangs but I always think, what's the chances someone left some behind..
Nice!!!

Yea I get your point...I?m certain folks passed through all these spots at different times over the years....but they generally picked up the obvious ones they tripped over basically. I don?t mind scratching around a bit , sometimes it?s paid off pretty nice. Thanks for checking

Nice looking overhang you can keep the ticks are you digging the drip line or out in front ?

Basically just scratching lightly around the drip line. Huge old tree growing out of it seems to be a catch all for the chert. This is part of a pretty magical location out here. Above a 70 ft waterfall I?ve posted on here before. I?ll probably never bring a sifter here or do any real digging. You can just feel the spirit of the forest and the hills here. Ancient place so I don?t want to disrespect it or change it.

Quinn many times a lot of things are out in front of the shelter if it is flat. Years ago I would go into a shelter and there would be whole pieces laying on the ground like it was left there yesterday. Now it is hard to find one that has not been sifted. I always carry a probe and hunt under the sift piles. That is slim pickings. Have fun. Kentucky is much like my area along the Cumberland with thousand and thousands of shelters.

I have only one spot, at least discovered some far, that has a rock shelter overhang that does not descend down an extremely steep bank down to the water below. The places I am finding artifacts are located high above steep banks in the rock cliffs. These have been passed through and camped in I?m sure forever , but I don?t really find any evidence of exscavation, human recent trash or soda cans. Pretty desolate areas out here not many people live in the area. Probably thrived more in archaic times possibly. Thanks for the tips my friend

I always wish for that perfect over hang beside a river over grown and never touched with shells and bone mixed in.
Nickajack cave here was like that but TVA flooded it and fenced it.
Here is what it looks like now.The water is around 30" deep at the entrance.
