Congratulations to all in this thread who just got or are about to get their DFX. You've made a great choice!

Don't let the "complexity" of the machine worry you. You can start with the stock Coin & Jewelry or EEPROM Deep Silver program; get used to what things look & sound like; and then customize and save your own program. Or benefit from someone else's experience--people are usually more than willing to share their programs and the reasoning behind their settings.

The recommended DDwtDFX Book is a must, and Jeff Foster (author) gives additional advice from time to time on the dfxonly site.

Watch for a solid signagraph. Remember that VDI #'s can wander a bit for an item that's been down there a long time.

And be advised that there's a White's forum here at Treasurenet:

Please let us know what you think after your first field test. I've been reading about the DFX. Good Luck

Congratulations on your new detector!

I absolutely love mine and I think you will to.

One suggestion:

Start out in the coin/jewelry mode.
Turn on the tone ID.
Turn on VCO pinpointing.
Run it in dual frequency and use headphones of some sort.

I use expensive Bose ear bud headphones and don't have any trouble hearing even the faintest tones but I'm sure cheaper ones will work fine as well.

Use the detector with these settins for a while and then explore other options. You can't hurt anything so don't be afraid to try different settings after a while.

I wouldn't get it a hurry, learn what the DFX is telling you before you change the settings.

and I'm still learning. so far this machine is awesome, try different settings, just remember to not only read the books but understand what they are talking about. good luck

Good choice, Master Sarge.

I started with a Prizm IV three years ago. I hunted with it for a couple of months before I got my DFX. I love my DFX and could never go back.

Good Luck!
