Thanks fellas!

That lock is the coolest one i've seen. They made them much nice back then. Great find! Too bad you didn't find the key. Any idea on the age?

Boy I like that.great find

Yes, having the key would be nice. I swear, I believe it would work if I had it! As best as I've been able to research, I believe 1910-1925. Made by "S.R. Slaymaker" who also made railroad locks in PA.

Cool find for sure.:icon_thumleft:

That is a cool find. Imagine the stories if it could talk ?

I found that same lock with my very first metal detector 25 years ago on an old 1920s - 1950s fair site in my hometown. Always thought it was a cool lock. I used to have it in a shadow box on my wall along with some little bottles, badges, cars, and other small things that I'd found.

You are getting really good at cleaning & preservation Richard as I noted in your recent W & E Treasures article. Did you spray it with clear polyurethane? HH, Q.

Yes how did you clean it as the one I have like that has never been cleaned. I yanked on mine and it opened??

Thanks Quindy. No, I boiled in hydrogen peroxide, brushed it with a toothbrush using Brasso, heated in the oven, put a coat of Briwax on it, and then a coat of Renaissance wax.
