Perhaps the design is not so unusual - I think the ridges at the top of the ring are stone settings which are clearly not there anymore.

I guess that is possible. This was found where a very old house once stood, I found an 1891 IH cent within a few feet of this ring, however the IH was a lot deeper. Thanks. :wink:
