Sad, but true. This is all I've found so far at the plantation house this week during my lunches. I was forced to rework the yard some and a bit in the woods, since the horse pasture has wet doo-doo in the areas I need to finish up. I swear every time I go to detect, it rains! Not much in the way of finds, but I did find a 3-ringer and a musket ball in the yard around some oak trees.
The strange looking buckle I found in the woods about 6" deep. It still has some leather attached to the back. Any idea on the age? After I dug up the buckle, I rechecked the hole and there was a signal even deeper. It turned out to be the bullet on the right. Any idea what kind of bullet this is? Age? Or is it even a bullet? Heck, I give up. :icon_scratch: ???
Short, and sweet for this post.

As a nice filler, I included some of my daughters artwork from the last month at school.
Woodland theme- Clay pieces and some wooden boxes w/woodburn designs.
By the way, she gets her artistic ability from me. ;D
That's all folk.
Thanks,
MM

Great finds and your daughter is very talented! Congrats to you both! oh....looks like a bullet to me!

I'd say that's definitely a bullet and a modern one at that! Most likely 270 caliber or something very close.
That buckle is intrigueing! I doubt it's a buckle. It appears more in the line of purses but where's the second half is the question?
Any idea of molecular composure? Brass, copper?

**I just realized, after re-reading the post after posting; that thing on the "middle" right does certainly appear to be a mini ball. But, it's really hard to tell studying the picture. By the way, enroll your daughter in Art School; she's very talented! :)

I'll agree with Nick about everything he said about your finds with the exception of the "buckle". My vote is on "purse" too. Perhaps a change purse. Did you recheck the hole???!!

Anyhow--I like the reigns guide too.

BB,
Yep, I rechecked the hole. That's where the modern bullet came from.
So a purse piece, huh? CW purse piece? ;D

Nice buckle my man, it looks like those might be garnets for stones. Bryan in Wilson

Kudos to your daughter, they look great.

Keep swinging out there but stay away from the wet ones:)
Did i say any find is a cool find.
NICE FINDS.

Hi,
what is the item on the top left of the first pic? I found one just like that last year made out of brass.
thanks

As noted by BuckleBoy, it's a guide ring for the reins of a horse. It's called a terret.

Priceless piece's of Art MM.....Is the round ball "pulled" :icon_scratch: HH!!

Yeah Civil, I "pulled" it from the ground. ;D
Seriously though, I'm still learning about these terms some of you use. What does "pulled" mean exactly?
While we're on that subject, I've seen some other CW bullets posted here on TN (maybe yours?) that have a spiral effect ao the tops.
What causes that, and what was that term again?
Thanks. I'm here to learn.

It means that it was extracted from the barrel. A rod with a metal twisted end was 'screwed' into the top of the bullet to extract, or pull, it. Take care, Bryan

Thanks Guys. I think I have found four or five of these now and three of those faucet handles. How much is brass bringing an ounce? ;D

Run a Q-Tip down the hole Doug, looks like it might have been pulled.....You'll know!! Like MW was describing....To me it look's like a pulled bullet.Real cool find....

Neat finds MM  Your post and pictures are excellent.

On a side note. I, like you, Much prefer dry doo-doo to wet doo-doo. ;D
One area I want to hunt is now a fenced off horse corral.

Hey MM. Strange finds, but none the less intriguing. I agree with a previous reply that the buckle thingy

is part of a purse , and i too am seeing garnets . With regard to age Nick may be right (art deco) my hunch

was Victorian or Edwardian 1880's - 1910. I'd like to see some more pics post cleaning. Blessings,

Gregory, Santa fe.

Thanks Merf. I found quite a few old buttons hidden in the horse doo. A lot of iron in their diets too. ;D

Doug,
Sarah's artwork is nice. I love that tree. I bet it's one of her favorite classes. Rachel has been taking Creative Foods and it's her favorite class.

As for the finds....if your still finding bullets that's good.

This just in - They are sending us home from work - water main break ! ;D ;D Sweet....Maybe hit a site on the way home.....

The circular item is a rein guide. Nice Digs Doug!
