First thing that pops into my mind is canteen.. Clay would keep the water a little cooler? And of course the old stand by whiskey or moon shine. I tend to think canteen from the shape. What are the measurements?? Either way a great relic!!
I'll be glad to display it in my CW section... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

If trk5capt found it in a Civil War artillery camp, it could have been brought in by a blockade runner. Were the Dutch involved in supplying Charleston during the War?
