Unknown Small Brass from Civil War camp

Here's a small solid brass item I found in a civil war camp in west central Mississippi yesterday. Any ideas what this is or what this could have gone to?

It's the exact same on both sides.

Does it look like it is broken off of something?
I'm thinking it looks like iyt's a piece off of a hanging lamp or chandlelier

Yes, it appears to be an old break. Probably the reason it was discarded.

Maybe off a sword guard... looks like it's been partially melted in a fire.
