Hello All,

My buddy just dug this coin today. Measures about 20.3mm, weight is 2.3grams. The bust appears to be facing left, as the faint ribbons and outline in the first photo attest. Dug in Southern Louisiana. Any ideas?

Ohhhh Maaaaannnnn!!!! It appears to be a William III sixpence. I may be incorrect, but it compares in size. This is just insane. Southern LA is not even done giving up to you guys. What a sick find! I hope we can get a proper ID. Ohhh Yeaaahhhh! Passion Pumped!

I agree that the ribbons are similar, but the bust is facing the wrong way? Man, I also hope we can get an ID on this one as to type...

Nope, not a Franklin Half, unless they made them in the "mini" size. :D

just idea maybe a extrem worn lib cap quarter ?

I thought about a worn lib cap dime, but the ribbons on the lib cap design point downward, and these point straight out from the outline of the bust. That was one of the first things I looked at, but I don't think that's what it is.

:hello:

At 21mm a George11 sixpence would fit, but there is not a great deal of detail left to be sure.:dontknow: Would be a nice coin find if it is.:occasion14:

Sure about the size? My first thought was a King Edward Canadian quarter. (23.62mm)

....forget that, quarter is way too heavy.

The coin is slightly over 20mm, like maybe 20.3 or 20.4. Hope this helps narrow down the possibilities.

If it is King Edward there's more choices than Canadian. Straits Settlements is one, but think I just ruled it out with 10 cents being too small, and 20 cents too big. India also uses that style of bust on their Rupee coins so maybe that is something to look at, but that's only if it is King Edward and I'm only taking a guess.

Is it a left, or right facing bust...I thought it was a left.:icon_scratch:

Well, if it's ribbons I'm seeing in the first photo above, with the outline of the top of a head, then the orientation of the first photo is correct and it is indeed a LEFT facing bust.

Cheers,

I think that looks to be the back of their head. Whose lips look like that on a coin??? I think it looks more like long hair.

I'd stay with the Cap bust dime theory if I was you.:laughing7: I think it's just damaged which is making the mm's off.The weight is more right for a bad worn cap bust dime the bust looks like it & I see the two SS's in states on the Rev.
Take Care,
Pete,:hello:
