I tend to agree on the plumbing part ID. But isn't very old with the pat. date present.

I was curious about this thinking that it was possibly an old car pump part. I haven't been able to find any images online like this one.
 

You’re right, it’s ‘08. I still bet it’s 1908. April 21, 1908 was a Tue., the day parents are always posted. April 21, 2008 was a Mon. I can thank @Redcoat for teaching me that.😉

Yep, 1908 it is.

It’s always tough to identify something from a patent date when it could be a small part of something larger. The only patent for that date with a drawing of an identifiable part that has any resemblance to your item that I could find was in the one granted to Alexander J. Loguin (of Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania). It was for an improvement in gearing for “transmitting rotary motion from one shaft or part to another shaft or part.”

Bear in mind that the principles of the patent could have been applied to any device that required gearing (including pumps), and that the individual parts thereof won’t necessarily be a match for those shown in the original patent.
