It was in the wash-out of a natural freshwater spring. Heavy for its size, After cleaning I noticed 3 little silvery protrusions. When magnified they're smooth but look melted (wavy)? After a search on the web the only pics of raw minerals that match is platinum.
As for the interior..I halved the stone, then dampened the cut sides. Anyone have any idea?
Sorry about the close-up pics, I've not a proper camera. :/

I saw in your area they have limestone and dolomite which could be what the host rock is. I also saw Ilmenite which could be the silver looking stuff . Maybe one of them. I am no expert I look it up on a site I use to find my stuff but like to try and help.

Hello TeAra, yes your right, the limestone & dolomite are very dominant in The Niagara Escarpment and all the stone quarry's here. It runs from Tobermory all the way down to Niagara Falls. I'm no expert either...and Stone quarrying is what I do!! ha!.. (third generation) since my Grampa started his first quarry.
I believe our southern neighbors across Lake Huron (Wisconsin) have part of the same strata's and formation's, but this stone isn't from those 'layers'. As for Ilmenite..thanks for the clue, will check it out. I've had one person mention cobalt as well for the matrix, there are many mineral mines north across Georgian Bay (Sudbury Area).
Thanks again for your help.

Hello Eu citzen, thanks for more clues. My (crappy) photos just don't do it justice!...what the stone looks like with the naked eye and under magnification. Checked Basalt web pics, and a few matrix do look very similar. As for the 'melted flow, soft look' of the Silver colored minerals on the exterior,Gonna keep searching everyones clues here. Think I might just 'bust' one half open with a sledgehammer and check the raw material!
Thanks again.

Basalt is a vulcanic rock, so it may be a "flow pattern". (in lack of better words)
Show us the pics if you do!

Hey Eu citzen, this stone still has me puzzled, never found one like it in this whole area. Decided not to bust one half open..I'll use a quick-cut (quarry saw) and do some slices and little blocks. :)
I put a few newer pics along side of 'Lunar Meteorite' pics (for comparison) on the Meteorite Forum...Very Similar I thought!

TJE, without busting it open, even if just a corner, it's more difficult to say what minerals are in there in a sawed section.

I'm staying with basalt so far.

Thanks Eu citzen, think I will try to hammer off a piece and put photo here.

Well, hammered an end chunk off...naked eye and under magnification it has silvery flecks all through it. No tarnishing of any flecks of exterior or interior.

TJE,

You might have a piece of augen gneiss. The silver flakes you see are pieces of mica. Probably muscovite or biotite. Not 100% sure, but from the photos that's my best educated guess.

Thanks for the tips Brian,
Would you know if the (silvery) mica, etc. has/can have a melted look on the exterior like a hardened lava wave? (only way to describe it!)
Thanks Again.

Easily scratched by a knife, if it is Mica. Has a diorite related like look to me?
I guess you'd have to have someone look at it in person to know for sure.:)
