didn't find 'em with the detector... they don't effect it at all. thought that was i little weird.
i used to live near pearsall Tx. and found alot of iron concresions just laying on the ground.(no detector then)
one looks like that, but negative on the magnet and compass..

Looks like iron ore, maybe your disc works real well! the crystals could be quarts or even salts or whatever forming on it and unrelated to the base rock's composition.

I was hitting an old site that had a lot of very light, pumice type rock. The stuff rings loud, similar to Aluminum foil! Strange.

maybe they are fulgerites. While a classic fulgerite is hollow, when lightning struck my front yard it produced a solid cylinder of fused sand and topsoil about 1" in diameter and 18"+ long. (it also branched, but was too fragile to extract in one piece) It was glassey and had areas that looked like rust.HH omnicognic 8)

Even a low grade ore would be more than half iron, hematite ore about 70 percent. Looks like more of an oxide at this point, common on surface.

Taconites(if thats what you meant) are even a lower grade, most likey wouldnt buzz well even after exposure.
