The medal was found with a number of old coins and button...Being excited because it looked old was great but the problem I am having trying to identify the piece...If anyone has any idea please feel free to respond. Found in Western new york with the other items the dates of the coins were 1842 and older...Thanks John

The new Pic is of the back , after cleaning the back I noticed at the bottom Right side it looks like the word (President) This might help in the identification of the piece...any ideas will be helpful....Thanks Seeker

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

The coin next to the medal is an Indian Head Penny found the same day at another site . The medal is slightly larger than a silver Dollar.....John

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

Just a shot in the dark here. Maybe something to do with the Knights Templers?
Great find!!!! HH

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

Taking a wild guess here...but it looks the size of centenial medals ...especially with the markings of the man and woman on the front.......or it has a spaniard and a priest on the front??

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

I noticed that on the front appears to be a woman and man Colonial looking and a pile with a cross. Maybe a religious medal or something honoring the death of someone? a memorial in metal? I would check out religious medals and or church commemoratives. Something to remember a Church event or even a wedding...

Just my 2 sense... ::)

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

actually upon further investigation.............. it also looks like there are two small imagaes sitting on the rocks on the lower section ...like children or I put to much rum in the coffee again.....

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

Look's pretty cool, nice find!Is that a flag behind the figure on the right and what's the one on the left holding,a spear of some sort

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

Almost looks like an Indian holding a spear and a woman opposite of him. Possibly something to do with religious conversion of that culture. Maybe a "token of friendship" made in England or the colonies during the early settlement days?

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

Looking at the figure on the right, to me it could also be a Jesuit Priest, whom were the main figures of early colonial days of establishing harmournious relationships with the native people. It looks like above and behind the figure that there might be 2 flags the Priest is holding, ( perhaps one a religious flag, and the other a flag of England). The object in the middle of them is hard to tell. Maybe a rock foundation for the cross, or a coat of arms?

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

nice find ,lets see the other side

Re: unknown medal found at an old site

All the responces are great , I will look into them and try to narrow it down...Tonight sometime i will post the Pic of the Back of the piece. It has some writing on the back and front along the top of the rim, not on the rim. Which is very hard to make out some of the letters can be seen but difficult..Thanks Seeker
