Okay. Newbie to MD but big into research and mapping/GIS. Found this knife near an old ferry (going back to the Spanish era w/ extensive French, Indian, fur trade, etc. influence). This knife was about 7 inches down in a field about 300 feet from the old ferry site and sitting back off an old, historic road. Some documents mention that there was a town near the ferry. This ferry was one of the only ways to cross the river for miles around. History ranges from 1700s to present.

Knife is very corroded. Cleaned it with warm water and soap (lightly) but still heavy rust. Some wood remaining. Handle appears to have four pin holes (two are filled w/ what appears to be nickle/german silver pins). Handle also appears to be flattened at the end... so maybe hammered on? Knife was broken about two inches below the handle. (rest of it nowhere to be found).

Looking for ideas on this knife. Maybe a Green River? No marks.

Welcome to the forum!! I can't be of much help with the knife, but I'm sure someone here will be :icon_thumleft:

looks like an old paint scraper/putty knife to me. but who knows ?

I wouldn't have a clue. I don't know much about knives, but there sure ain't much left of that one.

Yeah. I was wondering whether it is putty/paint scraper too. Suprised it is so corroded. Never know in the area where this was found. Lot of trash. No structures, but a concrete pad about twenty feet away (hasnt had a building on it for over twenty years). Guess this is one of those cases where you have to dig the trash to find the treasure. Using an MXT Pro and (even on the recommended settings) it is still picking up a lot of trash. Have to learn how to use this machine better.
