Solved! The eagle is/was chrome plated and is from a mailbox.
I was detecting a local park today for the first time and found a eagle about two inches down facing straight up. It measures 1 3/4" wing tip to wing tip, 7/8" from head to tail, and just short of 1/8" thick.
There are no marks/words/initials or anything on it that I can see. On the back in the center there was some sort of pin/clasp to attach the eagle which was broken off (likely why it was lost to start with).
I am curious what the eagle is for (was it a military hat pin, uniform, or something), a possible date, and any idea what metal it is? The coloring on the front is much lighter in real life, but no simple scrubbing with a tooth brush and water seems to clean it any better. On the back it is much cleaner in the center and is bright and shinny so I was wondering if it is silver or simply chrome plated.
Here is a picture of both the front and back of the eagle...
