I went to england and scotland in 2005 and the majority of these ancient coins came from a field around stone henge except for the two tokens and the british coin was from england. the big medallion came from an old abandoned cottage on the way to scotland and it was in a wooden box just bigger than the coin? the medallion is 2 3/4" across x 1/8" thick.

the one I'm interested in is the 1st coin in the 3rd pic, looks like silver to me & i think it's older than Roman, possibly Celtic.I can't see one side properly but if it looks like a stylised horse this makes it more likely.

One question...........how on earth were you allowed to detect round stonehenge? :o

We stayed in a small cottage not far from there. the weather was rainy with gale force winds no tours for that week the man we stayed with said he had been out there with detectors and found hundrds of coins, daggers, swords and relics he told us also that you can hear a vehicle before you see them so just lay your detector on the ground until they pass. I beleive there were 2 cars that day, although we never detected inside stonehedge just around it the field behind belonged to the royal airforce or whatever you call'em and had been used for a bombing for several years prior.lots of big craters and misc. tank bodies strewn thoughout the field.

in the 3rd pica, the 2nd & 6th object are just trade tokens & the 5th is a George III penny, often called "a bullhead" penny.
It's actually a George 1V Penny Laureate head, R, Britannia worth £200 if it was UNC :-*

Not a very good indication of rarity as before 1966 the detectorist weren't about. Now there are tons of them. I have found at least 6 of this type. Its one of the more common type, however its in top condition.

I think I have a Constantine II coin as well. When I get the chance, I'll post my coins...maybe someone can figure out what they are...

That one is probably Honorius but could also be Arcadius.

You are absolutely correct. The R.I.C. volumes (I believe) are in revision now. Since the iron curtain fell, a great deal of coins are being found (particularly in the Balkans). This has changed the entire equation with respect to rarity.
