✅ SOLVED Unknown brassy cast part

This one has me stumped. It is cast and looks like it would be a mechanical part but it is not finely machined. Has 1802 cast into it which I am assuming would be a part number and not a date. The site does go back into the 1790’s but it does t look like a part that would justify putting in a date. looks like part of a door or cabinet lock/ deadbolt type thing

I thought so too but found it odd it doesn’t have any screw holes or a hole for it to pivot on. Looks like it would have to have been held by a bracket or something else

this is the bolt that would slide back and forth, no need for screw holes. that vshaped indent is where I would look for evidence of wear indicating this was the spot that moved it.
