I haven't had much to post lately that you haven't seen before until now. I talked Twinpicks into an afternoon hunt in the Charleston area and this was my find of the day. The St. Patrick's Benevolent Society was founded in 1817 as a source of aid to arriving Irish immigrants, both Catholic and Protestant.* Following the Civil War, the organization evolved into a mutual aid society, providing sick and funeral benefits to members and their families.* Meetings were held at several locations around Charleston including the Masonic Hall at 270 King Street, and the Hibernian Hall.

Nice find ! Any hallmarks ? I'd guess circa 1870- 1900 .
No hallmarks and I really don't have a clue on age. Thanks

Very cool find bud. Always neat to dig something that has an interesting story to go along with it.
Love the craftsmanship. Would be cool if you could find a pic with someone wearing one exactly like yours, and possibly put a date on when this style design was used.
Nice to see you are still digging and posting, was beginning to think you were retired.

Thanks Bone It seems we all remember the wealthy landgrant owners or the millions of slaves that were brought into our county but seem to forget the countless millions of immigrants that came mostly penniless to start a new life here. Societies like this and others are only remembered when an item like this is found.
Yeah I'm still around and digging and giving most of what I find away like this item that will go to a nice "old Catholic boy" that has a greater appreciation than I do. I don't post every button or coin that I find but still enjoy coming on here looking at fantastic things you and others are finding.
