Would appreciate some help identifying this old piece of iron. Found it many years ago near an old homestead and farmland. It looks like a cooking spatula lol. I'm assuming its of an old tractor. My dad though it might be the step to help get up on something like a wagon maybe. The skinny end looks like it was longer or attached to something and had broke.

You should post something with it (like a coin) so we can tell the size of the item or at least give us some measurements. I have no idea if this is 3 inches long or 3 feet long. Just trying to help.

Good point :)

It's at my parents so I'll try to take a pic beside something soon.

It's about 8in long. Long part is about 1.5 inch wide. The wide part is about 4in wide.

It looks like a primitive broken 'mammy made' spatula that could have been used to remove a piece of food from an open fireplace.

Interesting find,
Breezie

My first thought was it is the business end of an applebutter paddle. But I think they were typically wooden.

Here's what just one style, there were lots of styles, but this resembles your find, of what a store bought buggy step looked like.

Yours might be a blacksmith, or a more crude farmer smith made step, but I'm more inclined to agree with Breezie, especially if it looks like there might have been a wooden handle at one time.

When you get a chance to take more photos, please include a back and side view. I'd like to see if there is an identifiable black smith weld. From the view that's there it looks like it might be. To my mind, to be a buggy step it would have to have more iron at the bend, so a bottom and side view is necessary.
