Been trying to I.D. this object and no one seems to know but several have recommended posting it here. It was found in a field in Ohio by a friend with other coins and relics. The coins range in date from the oldest being 1820 to the newest being 1865. The buttons range from Tombacs to CW era buttons. By the color of the brass I think the tip has got to be silver.Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

That is a valve stem from a early automobile, the same that was found on the Ford Model T. They are sought by collectors, Check the home page for the " Horseless Carriage " assoc. They have a good classified section open to all to buy and sell. Usually go for 10-20 apiece. Good luck

Did you find a matching pic or is this just your opinion? Just curious.

It seems we often dont want to do any work finding matching pics. It shouldnt be like this and it cant be marked solved without it. We can do better.

Im not saying the ID is incorrect but I searched and couldnt find a positive match.

I see a lot of pictures of valve stem caps, nylon valve guides, and super duper valve stem attachments posted by bigfoot and surf but whats the point? Nothing matches. What am I supposed to ponder? Am I missing something?

Maybe its a crack pipe. Maybe Treasurenet WIIT forum is going down the toilet.

bigfoot. You seem like a great person. Ill give you a tip. Quality is better than quantity. Try to think quality in your replys.

Its not possible to know the item in every single thread. Its not humanly possible to be able to help solve every thread.

The items you posted are valve stem covers. One pic is valve guides.

GMD52 says its a valve stem. Try searching for valve stems (not covers) If GMD52 is right and would be kind enough to find a matching valve stem photo, we could mark it as solved.

Same thing with surf. You posted valve stem covers. I have no idea why you posted 2 photos of a valve stem gauge.

While guesses are great and often needed, sometimes guessing wrong can cause a huge waste of time.

Hey Bigcypress,

I thought you were calling for photos of valve stem covers. I don't think it's one, either, but who can resist a Super Duper...

It seems to me that the 'silver' part of the equation would eliminate the valve stem angle, and most probably 99.9% of safety razors.

I have to agree with Bigcypresshunter.
Misleading ID's only mislead us. Wild guesses are more than welcome. Yet, a proper identification calls for proper authentication.
Otherwise; my guess is possibly part of a propelling pencil
for examples;
antique propelling pencil - Google Search

wow ,, some good guesses guys , but i am not sure i agree with any of them yet,,lol
i see no threaded end on either end , so that would do away with razor valve stem and pencil , also looking at the size of it , it looks to be 1 1/2 - 2 inches long , so would have to be attached to something , but not seeing any threaded ends makes it hard for me .

and Big C you are right and point taken , i am just as guilty as anyone when it comes to putting in my 2 cents and not knowing,,lol
but you have voiced a complaint i have thought about also , i like to throw ideas out there , but if they are misleading and not helpful i do not want to do that.
