I have found different sizes of these small some what horse shoe pieces at early sites. This one is approximately 3" X 3-1/2" X 1/4" thick, some what horse shoe shaped with a cross bar. Seems to be made of iron. Any Ideas?? (Will try to give a better description as surly someone know what these are) Appear to be built heavy duty. They could almost pass for a very small horse shoe if they had the nail holes and didn't have the cross bar. The 2 ends have a some what T shape on the very end. Were found at early home sites. Would sure like to know what they are!!!

Maybe a spindle support or work piece support for a lathe or mill? The feet slide into the "T" slot on the work table. The "T" slot is a notch shaped like an up-side-down T that is milled into the table. There are many, many tools, clamps, and vises that use this type of attachment.

I agree it would attach using the feet and "t-slot". But I woulnd't think it was for something that spun fast or even spun in full circles or else the groove would need to go all the way around. (wouldn't it?) I was thinking it was somthing that would swing back in forth, in a limited range. Just a thought.

Hey Folks,
Just found your site and we love it!!!
Been detecting for many years and look forward to show and tell!!
As to this item it's a early form of a bed rail hook, These come in many different
forms and styles, I have seen these with beds as early as 1860s- They seemed to take
over the rope bed form of putting a bed together. Hope this info helps.
