Underwater Hunting - With a ROV?

Just saw a news story on this "Open ROV". Its an open sourced, build it yourself Underwater ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) whose main components cost about $850. They have a forum for help building it, improving it and so on.

The claim is it can go down to 100m (328 feet) which would really open a lot of doors for potential treasure hunting.

I was considering attempting to build one of these over the winter to see how it goes. Who knows, eventually it could have a MD and grabbing arm attachments...and it'd be up to users to make it happen.

Could be interesting!
 

There is a HUGE difference between a floating box with a few thrusters and a camera....and submersible robotics like manipulator arms.

I agree, it would probably be a long time before something like that would be cheaply available. Still, even down 80ft divers could pinpoint exactly where they need to dive to recover something. At those depths time is always against you, not even counting if its cold or visibility is poor.
