If you are a Tnet regular, you might recall when I dug a U.S. box plate at a CSA Cavalry camp during the same hunt when Dman recovered the "artillery" hammer on Nov. 14. There are many theories as to why the plate was 'rolled in". The most likely reason is dissimilar metals like a thermocouple. I sent it to my friend Robert McDaniel in Alabama as he thought he could improve the looks of it.
I saw Robert at the Nashville Civil War Show today and he brought my restored plate with him. Is he a magician or what? He is a Master restoration expert. HH, Quindy.

Oh, Q, that looks FANTASTIC!!! :) Breezie

Fantastic job!

What would be the $ rate for restoring a piece like this?

Robert is a true master! Great looking plate!

Very nice restoration!

Wow he turned that beat up relic into a displayable piece of history. That is a great piece and deserved to be brought back to life!

Robert charges by the hour. He has never revealed the rate but a restoration like mine can run from $50-70 + return shipping according to the effort required to restore the relic. HH, Quindy. .

That is just crazy. That guy has some talent. Looks really good. I remember how happy you were to have found that. Display with pride because at 149 years in the ground it is quickly going away. Fertilizer is killing us. Nice rescue.

He is a true artist! Beautiful plate.

I'm not sure about the results. It looked awesome before but that's just me.
