Unbelievable First Hunt of 2013. Call me butter... ~*NEW PICS*~
...cause I'm on a roll.
Hello everyone!
Yesterday, I called up Bob and Norma to see if they wanted to head out today for the 1st hunt of 2013. I knew that the snow was gone from the fields, and figured that since the ground was thawed at my house, it would be thawed in the fields too. We arranged for me to be dropped off at 12:30 today, which I was, and then we would head out soon after, which we did.
We got to the field at about 1:30, not too bad, considering that we stopped for coffee along the way. We got out of the truck, and got right to it. We hadn't even been there two minutes, and 30 feet from the truck, I found a complete Native American Celt! This is my first one and I'm pumped! Great way to start of 2013, huh? Well it gets better, as you will see
After finding that, we continued down the row. The next thing I found was a rubber button, with a backmark of "N R & Co. GOODYEAR S P-T." Again, a first! There were many surface finds, the winter snow did wonders to that field, packing it down and such. At the end of the row, I ended up finding a buckle. We kept going along, finding little objects here and there. Things didn't get exciting until about 2:50. At this point I came across a button with my detector, sticking halfway out of the ground. I told Bob I found a button on top, and he came to look at it. I snapped a picture thinking "this'll be a neat little picture to add to my TreasureNet post!" After I took the picture, I carefully plucked it out of the ground, and flipped it over to see the front. When I did this, my face dropped all expression, then went completely blank. I started trembling. Bob asked me what it was, and after a bit of stuttering I managed to say "Long Live The President..."
"No!" he said. "Yes." "No!" "YES!" Then I snapped out of my state of shock (albeit still shaking, this continued for a good 10 minutes) My voice was trembling and I was overwhelmingly giddy. My first Washington Inaugural Button! I couldn't believe it! It wasn't bent and it still had the shank! I couldn't get over the concept of finding it. Bob handed me his phone and I tried to call home, but there was no answer. Next we called Norma (for the second time, the first being after I found the celt.) After that we called our friend Paul, who also detects. He was just as pumped as I was, but unfortunately couldn't join us. We were just all so excited, we couldn't stop talking about it. Things got somewhat quiet after that, until we were heading back to the truck when Bob dug a gold ring! It's a fashion wax seal ring, made by Allsopp-Steller Company (in business from 1936-1958) We each made out good today!
Just writing this and reliving the experience made me shake and smile again, I just can't get over it!

(P.S. I forgot to mention, the 20 mm LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT with 15 stars is listed as RRR (ultra rare) in the J. Harold Cobb's book, and as of the 2005 revision, there are only two known examples! If anyone has more info I would /love/ to know. Perhaps someone with a button book could help?)
