I’m still a bit shaky. Actually in the live dig you can see my hand start shaking the minute I realize what I had dug, lol.

I’ve been clearing out a cellar hole lately and went there this morning for my second round of gut-busting stone removal. The first day had good results with a shoe buckle frag and some iron scissors, so I decided to commit my winter to a complete excavation. Here’s day 1 View attachment 1522484

Today I took a “before” picture even though I’d done some removal already. Here’s how it looked

I spent a good 2-3 hours removing stones and grooming the dirt for detecting but hadn’t had any luck besides square nails and cauldron fragments. I was beginning to feel quite dejected after removing a ton (no kidding) of rock and finding zero non-ferrous targets when I got a pretty decent signal. That’s when things got weird...

And here it is...

It actually looks like an off-strike on top of everything else. Here’s a guide for Identification

The video says it all but I must say it was quite a wonderful surprise to dig a copper, much less a transitional piece in good condition. Here’s an “after” pic of the cellar hole from 3 hours of workImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1512324334.878535.jpg

This is my second Nova and I now have two Scarce varieties!

Here they are together

I left after that find, but I’ll surely be back soon. Remember, you never know what’ll be in that next hole so always keep at it. Enjoy, and good hunts!

What a great looking copper to go along with your other one. I usually not able to watch videos and for some reason the signal strength was fine except for this weird beeping interference while you were talking true feelings of the find.:laughing7:
I must add this beats a buckle frame fragment. Congrats on a truly a great reward for your efforts.

Great find! I'm yet to find any coin from the 1700's let alone a Nova with 2 years of regular hunting. I'm still optimistic!

Super coin. Big congrats ![emoji2][emoji106]

Wow buddy! Sorry I had a crazy weekend at work and missed your call. Those look amazing and that’s quite a feat to put two of those beauties in your collection. If they were toast it would be an amazing accomplishment....to get them in that condition is just incredible. I would keep on clearing that spot my friend. That’s how I found my eagle on cannon button. Just ask Bradley Harbin lol. Super psyched for you man. Hope there’s more killer coins hidden in that dirt. If moving a ton gets you that I’d move a mountain

Congrats. Those wooded cellar hole sites seem to preserve copper coins like nowhere else and you certainly have a knack for finding them

This copper I suppose was in similar conditions as the first I found, but I read that the quality of the planchets and dies went downhill on the 1785’s. This may explain why the condition is a bit less than the 1783. But yeah, generally it seems that if the coppers stayed near the homesite, the better they look generally. Thx for looking

Man that is a beauty! What method did you use to clean it? Just dry with a toothpick? Wow

Also, I voted banner on this! Unbelievable condition!

Really appreciate the video. A lot of guys don't care for em but I really enjoy them. Again, congrats and well worth the effort.

Haha, I was lucky on this one. I typically don’t do too many videos, but I’d had a frustrating day before that find, so I guess I was simply trying to prolong the enjoyment of a decent signal. Lol

Thanks bud. It was certainly worth the effort, but I know you’re quite aware on the knock-down drag-out time/labor involved between really killer finds. Good to hear from you man!

That is one fine looking historical coin and cleaned up real good...Relic hunting never gets weird enough for me !
Gary

The beauty of this hobby is you NEVER know what’s coming next. Thx for looking Gary

Congrats on your second Nova, and from the same site which is a crazy coincidence. That coin, along with a Fugio is high on my wish list. Now what do the mods do with two banner worthy Novas in the space of a week?

Huge congrats on the second one man and awesome video... I was laughing watching it. :occasion14:

It's true! While you were clearing stuff out, I tried to come in and detect the freshly open area, but was quickly shooed away. :laughing7:

Killer find! :notworthy:

Big congratulations to you!! What a find! I’m glad you were rewarded for all your hard work. Your post is very inspirational to me, I just started (last week) on clearing a cellar hole of debris, brush, and branches.

Super find! Enjoy! Congrats and HH

Hey thanks DD. I’m glad this post inspired you to dig out some of da good stuff!

Glad you sniffed that one out. It sure is nice when its worth the effort. Beautiful coin, what a nice couple coins to get that collection going!

Oh man, my collection is out of control and my wife is loosing her mind. Here’s just one of my cabinets, not to mention wall displays. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1512429216.917840.jpg

You said in the beginning of the video you were wasting the day digging a cellar hole but I think not!
