It just shows how hard those landings were on the front tires.

It found fame on The Dukes of Hazzard, famous for its many car chases and stunts. Some might remember that in fact, the General Lee was never destroyed on screen. During filming, however, some 300 cars were wrecked over the seven years the series ran.

I had one when I was 19 and blew up the engine (timing chain went). While I was figuring out what to do it was sitting in front of my uncles house. Somebody noticed it and the scouts from the show came and bought it from me. It made me cringe knowing that my car was sacrificed for that silly show, but I didn't have the means to deal with it then. Oh well...

I retired from the Fire Dept., and my wife and I live in Newton County, about 5 miles from the Covington square and the Historic Courthouse that was filmed and featured in shows such as the Dukes of Hazard, and In the Heat of the Night. I worked after retirement for awhile in the sign shop in public works. One day an older gentleman came into the shop asking for directions to the square. He was a tourist and said he owns one of the original General Lee cars used in filming the D.O.H. He claimed to have paperwork on the car. He said he always wanted to drive his car around the square. He told us that the car was outside of the shop. We went outside to see it, and it looked like it could have been, but who knows. On Friday night a complete square block of the square burned, and affected some of the business owners. Mutual aid was called from several Fire Dept.'s. My old Dept, (Dekalb County) was one that responded. Requesting prayers for the business owners affected by this fire. Some of these buildings were nearly 200 years old. Luckily, there were no injuries reported. Thankfully, The old Court House was not affected by the fire.

Nice, I love how even small finds, have a way of spawning the recollection of interesting stories, thanks for sharing.
