Well,
believe it or not, this UFO now belongs in my keys bundle..
I feel that is my way to pay respect to the people that
inhabited our property long before us.
Am I being too romantic tied to the past ? ::)
What causes us to have such a strong connection to History?
I can´t help it thinking : what are we in fact ? - frustrated
archeologists perhaps? - Some kind of time travelers or what?
Just looking for things that make others laugh at .
Perhaps its only Man´s Nature to look for answers.
I would gladly hear your opinions about this....
HH.
Mike

I think that it is great for you to take it home with you, and it is a great part of history! :icon_sunny:

Mike, maybe what makes most people interested (at least to some degree) in history is the fact that we are all a part of it. Each day we add to the pile, we contribute some little piece to the huge puzzle that is mankind. We build upon those who have gone before us. We are all a part of the cycle, the circle, and the continuum...we are all a part of the whole. Like birds in a flock turning and landing in unison, so we are linked together by some unseen and often unknown connection. History is as old as the dust of the universe and as recent as this post being typed on my laptop. Though we may come from different parts of the world or we may have lived at different times, we are much alike - that's what history teaches us. (See, you aren't the only romantic. :))

Whoever made that UFO must surely be happy to know you found it and respect it. You're now the keeper of the key - the master of its fate....it couldn't have been found by a better steward.

Thank you !
It is fantastic ! - I think nobody could have explained this better than you did !

Hmmm.
At first I thought this was a bottle opener but then realised it was too small (Oh and the "modern" bottle opener wasn't developed until the early 20th century with the advent of "Crown" caps to seal bottles). A key? I don't think so because I would have to ask why there is a sharp point on the interior of the key and the base of the supposed key is too long and doesn't lend itself to a key design unless the key is about 8-inches long (impractical). Since it is made of bronze, I will put forth the alternative opinion that is may be nothing more than a ceremonial knife or letter opener. Seems to fit the design/length/style of the artifact.

Just my thoughts on this.

Oh...and TreasureTale's explanation is so "spot-on" that I'm going to have to cut-and-paste it to my files. Thanks T-Tales! VERY Eloquently done!

I agree with Narked. This very well may have been a ceremonial or decorative knife or letter opener. With the thickness of the blank that you provided I would lean more towards the knife. Whatever it may be, it is still a neat find. Did you try looking for the other part of it when you found it? HH

We should still consider the possibility that it could be a part of an
old stove or field kitchen ..... ::)

It looks just like the end of a key for a jail cell. I have seen similar keys for those old big heavy wrought iron gates too. Monty
