I found this yesterday and can hopefully locate the family. It was found on an old Schoolhouse property in Clay County Illinois. I have done another post on Lost and Found to have help getting back to owner.

Congrats on the WW2 era ID tag. Looks like he had his last Tetanus shot in 1946 so from that time frame.

KS is correct as well as dental notch on tag dating between 1941 to around 1970. Definitely not recent.

Thanks Fellas!!!

I want to thank you gxray for telling me about Angelo's angels. We have worked all evening and I am going to be making some phone calls tomorrow. I don't know if it will be the right family but with her help we are really close I believe. I don't know if I will ever be able to explain how passionate she is for putting dog tags back in the right hands. I will let you all know what I find out .

Just an update..... The family of dog tag was found in New Jersey. It seems this James Dennis enlisted at Jefferson Barracks in St.Louis. With help I found his oldest daughter living in New Jersey. He was born south of St. Louis enlisted Feb 9th 1946 and was stationed at Fort Dix ,NJ where he met his wife of 49yrs and stayed in NJ. No explanation of how it ended up 2hrs east of St.Louis but his dad worked for the B&O railroad which runs through here. So maybe they met for supper at the School House where I found it or something else only James probably knows

Great find and all the best locating the owner or his family. Looks like you are hot on the trail!
