U.S. Mint to Ban Melting Pennies, Nickels

There is something really smelling at the U.S. MINT.
They are saying that it cost the U.S. over $1.00 to mint a PENNY and $6.99 to mint a NICKEL.
No wonder the Government is going to hell in a basket.
Try to sell a NICKEL to the MINT for say $3.00. They will have you committed or shot ;D :-\ :o
Hell you do not have the dive for treasure you may already have a fortune in your piggy bank.
Right now I have 20 pounds of pure zinc and about 200 pounds of scrap copper. My son is a plumber by trade so copper scrap is no problem.
Hay where is Cornelius? We are talking about MONEY here REAL CASH$$$$ ;D ;D ;D.

You mis-read the article. those amounts were listed in CENTS. For example, a 5 cent nickel costs the government 6.99 CENTS to produce.

Yeah, but i think they make up the diffrence when they create dollar bills or other bill currency for that matter... So i guess the only way to know for sure is to find out how many dollars per sheet and how much it cost to run one sheet...lol anyone think they got that answer? let me know if you find out thats an interesting question at best.. not to mention only having to change the numbers to a higher one makes them even more $$...

Funny how the goverment does things.

Does the goverment own quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies?

If so, we need to go back to the good old days of silver and gold. No way should the goverment own our money...

With the price of copper skyrocketing, there's a real worry about the pennies being melted down for the metal. The thing is, that's going to be too much work and trouble for most "recyclers". Not too long ago here in FL, copper thieves swiped 2 MILES of installed underground copper wiring. They even had a special truck to do it with. That should give you an idea of how bad the copper theft problem is becoming....

If metals keep rising in cost will be having compressed wood with synthetic fibers coins in circulation.

Why are they worried about people melting down pennies and nickels. I for one have been pulling 90% and 40% silver coins from bank rolls and selling them to my dealer. He sells them for melting down and getting the silver. Why are they worried about people doin this with pennies and nickels? Some things just don't make any cents to me.
