Farm dates back to 1840. Has provided us with some silver coin, some normal trinkets and whatnots, some clad, and LOTS of shredded aluminum.

The property at one point was home to an officer who was stationed at West Point military academy, who was in command of the equestrian team. Not sure of the time period, but likely sometime between the 1950s and 70s.

I have been told that he often had cadets over riding at this place. we haven't made it to the corals or pastures yet. Not sure what to find there.

But my questions is if someone can date the US button (cleaned with stick only). Measures 1" in diameter. Just want to be sure that it is a modern button, and not an older one that coincidentally was lost before the equestrian team started to ride here.

And I thought the buckle was nice (2" in lenght). Cleaned up with Naval Jelly to a brown/copper color. Is this horse related? Or predates the 1950s Equestrians?

Thanks!

Button is a WWI era (or just a little later) collar disc. There are some people out there who can date these down to the decade, but not me. The other piece is probably about the same age.

Smokeythecat is correct, you've found a US Army collar-insignia disc, and your version dates from 1910 (when they first appear) to 1924. Yours originally had a screw-stud on its back, now broken off, for attaching it to the uniform's collar. I'm certain it is the 1910-1924 version, because it is a single thick solid-cast piece of metal, the US has no periods after each initial, and the background's pattern resembles cloth fabric.
