Hello all,
Thank you for viewing this thread.

These are odd and need some attention. The left one is 58 cal. dropped and has a deep large concave tip end. The right one is 50 cal. fired and has a flat tip end with a small depression in the center. Any comments welcome. IMAG0396.jpgIMAG0397.jpgPossibly someone has seen these types before. best,

It looks like , they made an atemp at a hollow point bullet maybe . It may have been an atemp at centering the ramrod , I'm not really sure .

Thanks for the reply. Closer look at the 58 caliber shows the hole is not centered and has screwlike threads within and the cavity is not pointed at the base, but almost cylindrical shaped. Could this be a pulled bullet.

As always ,"IMO"
Your Bullet on the Right "May Be Post War".
&
The 3 ring 58 "possibly" has been Pulled or Maybe even Carved on the tip (after being Pulled)???

BTW
Was the patina on that 58 the same as it looks in the Cavity, before you brushed the bullet? Or did the patina just come off easily with just a lite cleaning, Kinda the way Burnsides do.?
just wondering.
Nice Finds

Yes it was. The 58 cal was found on the surface in a river shoreline about 1965 and had light patina (Mom found it). It was entirely patinated white, but do to washing and rough handling the patina has been rubbed off. I believe it has been pulled, but thought it was an exploding bullet prototype. Not true.

The 50 caliber was found among 15 others civil war bullets at a skirmish location, but very little camp debris is present. No buttons, coins, shoe pieces, but some horse gear is there. The place has been terraced. The boy scouts found some cannon balls. Thanks for your reply.
