Two new silvers for me today, one of them I almost didn’t dig.

Unbelievably found my first silver Washington, despite my other finds thus far. Thought to myself great! On the board with a coin and silver to boot!

A few feet away I get the loudest high tone, 38-40, shallow. Nettles everywhere and I chose to wear shorts. Probably a big chunk of slag.

Meh, dig it anyway. Target was a bit off from where I dug so I stuck the screw driver in and pop the side, only to be greeted with a huge, shiny, reeded edge.

1923 Peace Dollar! The heft of this coin is wild. Not perfect condition, touched it with the screwdriver but she has plenty of wear to begin with. Great day in the sun. Enjoy.

Congrats. That was a good day

Super congrats! Any silver is good silver - and a silver dollar is great. Interesting what the soil in your area does to silver coins. Where I live, silver coins come out of the ground almost as nice as they went in. Unfortunately, the limestone soil really deteriorates large cents though.

It’s been more often on the favorable side for most of the coins I’ve gotten around here. Since these weren’t that deep, I’m thinking they were fairly well circulated before being lost. The immediate surrounding homes were built in the 50s.

How long you been digging?
Congratulations on the silver dollar and quarter.
A silver dollar was my first item on the bucket list.
Now 5.5 decades later it still sits on that list.

I’ve been digging on and off for 2-3 years but only started going regularly this year. Save a kettle point and a few other artifacts, 95% of my best finds are from this summer.

1904-O Barber Half Dollar
1831 William IV Penny
1903 Barber Quarter
1898 Barber V Nickel
1923 Peace Dollar
180? Draped Bust Half Cent
1781 Spanish Half Reale
1854 Seated Dime
1937 Mercury Dime

All firsts 🤓

I hope you get your dollar!

I got a first today also. 1888 dime on my property.
This passion never gets old.
