There is this old Sears-Roebuck prefab house in our town. It is in extremely good shape but no one has lived there for years. I ran into the owners last week and asked if I could hunt the lawn and they said "Sure!". It took a few days to get it worked into my schedule but yesterday I had a couple of hours and my hunting buddy Dean and I headed out. Dean only had two hours before he had to go to a doctors appointment so he took the front yard and I took the backyard. I had installed the Super 12 coil on the MXT and was happy to find so little trash that it was a perfect place to try it out.
It wasn't long before the first wheat cent came out of the ground, then another, then a Mercury dime. I knew this was a great yard! By the time Dean had to leave I had what is in the first picture. What an excellent two hours. Dean had not done as well and as we headed for the truck he realized he had not turned up the gain on his MXT much past 9 o'clock! Boy was he upset since most of my finds had been at 6-8 inches. He had found a few clad coins but no silver. The Super 12 coil had really done its job since the deep coins rang out like they were right on top of the ground for me. During the entire two hours I dug only two pull tabs.
The house kit was built in two days in 1957 I had learned from the owner and why there was virtually no trash I don't know. Besides what is shown I found and trashed an old spigot handle, a heavy copper wire terminal and a piece of pewter from a vase or similar item as well as another rose tag (also marked Sterling Silver, the name of the rose). This has to be the best two hours I have had in a LONG time!
By the way there was one more silver dime that I gave to the owners when they stopped by to see how I was doing. So my total silver was $1 face value as well as two silver rings.
