i dont see nothin too valuable in those pics...in the first pic the yellow /white towards the bottom is a master brushed patch...in the last pic at 11 oclock the orange white swirl is an alley made in st marys wvthey wre burnt down in 1958 and moved operations to paden city where they make marbles today as marble king..at a 45 degree angle to that one is a master shooter...a harder to find marble in shooter size...nice marbles...master glass operation was started after a rift between akro agate and some workers there...they operated in bridgeport wv from 41-47 whenthey went back with akro which shut down for good in 1951there was also a master marble company that operated from 1930-1941...thats kinda confusing .....but clear as mud to me....

Thank duffytrash. I was hoping you'ld answer becase I know your a real marble guru. Being that you said the smaller version of the master shooter might be a more sought after marble, I’ll post some similar that soon. Thanks for your input. I really appreciate it. You’re a valuable asset to all of us who like marbles.

PS
Hi Nick, I hope to always have a little youngster inside me, just like you, he he he he.

I was quite a marble shooter and was the sixth grade champ at my school. My 15 minutes of fame! :D I had a shooter like the orange and yellow striped one and they were hard to come by even when I was a kid. Another shooter favorite of mine was an old off color aggie. It was a littler heavier than a glass marble and didn't chip as bad. Monty

Glad you showed the marbles Ant, because I've got a large sized leather marble pouch from the 60s...I have all the different types shown in the photos. That opaque white mixed with color kind have a couple or few, those always seemed to be more scarce than even clear glass ones.

For any of you who would like to collect marbles here's a tip. If you have found one or a few at a given site, go back the day after a good hard rain and lots of times you will find some more right on the surface.

I got a can of oldies I'll have to post. Had them for 25 years. Seems everywhere I looked back then I found marbles. Never gave any value to them a thought. I'll have to post them some day.

I had bought a house in 1980 and while planting a garden, I came up with a hand full. The neighbor, who was almost 70, told me they had a shanty there at one time that they played marbles in as kids.

Guess maybe I do have a few oldies. Thanks for the reminder.

Great Tip, Monty! This is especially true if you're hunting a site in a crop field during the off season. Frequently such artifacts weather out of previous dig holes. (We always cover them in, but the rain still washes items out.) That's how I found my clay Colonial trade pipe stem earlier in the month.

I love finding marbles and can't figure why I never collected them. I've probably lost and misplaced many more than I've found since starting detecting. Monty
