Well happy New Year everyone from the frozen tundra of Wisconsin. Haven't been out in a while due to deer season and the holidays. Was able to get out this weekend for the first time in weeks.

Went to my home park yesterday and today. Skunked with clad and frozen ground yesterday but moved deeper into the woods today where I could actually stick my shovel in the soil.

Decided to go to the spot where I dug my first ever IHPs. I had dug 4 of them in a small area about 6 or 7 years ago with my old Ace 250. I had been over this spot again with my Nox 800 and found nothing. TODAY I went over the same spot with the Manticore and was shocked when I pulled this...

My first ever Centennial 1876 Carson City Seated Quarter! It was an iffy signal reading 91-93 one way and after turning 90° the signal had a rough iron grunt. BUT that's because there was a nail in the hole. Really glad I dug the signal. I ended up with two more IHPs 1907 and 1882.

All these coins would have been part of the same spill once upon a time. That's 6 IHPs and the Seated Quarter in total all found over the last 6 to 7 years in the same 5 foot radius on a hill.

True testimony that a site is never hunted out. 3 machines, 6 to 7 years time, one detectorist, quality finds in the same EXACT same spot...

I wish everyone out there the best 2025 season. Good luck and happy hunting!

Not bragging, and don't know how well you do or know your machine, but my partner uses a Minelab NOX 800 and I normally get 2-3 Xs the pennies / Wheats Silver dimes that he does, whether it's the way he swings or whether I know my machine better I can't tell you... We do swap signals and he generally seems to get the signals I get, IF SHOWN, but a lot of them he says he wouldn't dig because they don't sound good on his machine..

Sooo.. yeah it would be interesting..
where are you ?
We are in North Carolina
To be honest I've had the Manticore for less than a year. Half of that time was me trying to learn the new machine. I made the mistake of trying to duplicate the tones of my Nox 800. You can customize a lot of stuff on the Manticore which I'd did and it really set me back.

I performed a factory reset and have been having really good luck with the Manticore now. I used my Nox 800 for 4 years prior and also did really well with it. I am usually a weekend warrior when it comes to detecting. 4 to 8 hours on the weekends and if it's nice a few hours during the week as well after work.

I do understand what your buddy says about passing on those iffy signals. The Nox and the Manticore false on nails or screws. They sound really good one way then when you turn on the signal it has a strong iron tone. 99 times out of 100 it's a nail or a screw. This Quarter was that 1 out of 100 signal for me. I dug it because I knew what I had found in that spot years ago.

Sorry for writing a novel. If you ever find yourself in SE Wisconsin give me a shout. I'll take you to the spot.

That's would be cool to see. Maybe a trip for later in life.

yeah me too, wife keeps me on a short leash ... but back in my younger days it was different.. 🤣
Ain't it a bit chilly up there right now ? But I'm retired and travel, so not out of the question..
Any big airports nearby ?
Gotta keep up with the honey do list that's for sure.

Yes it's a tad bit chilly but that didn't stop me from going out yet even when it was 14°s the other day. Just put on my cold weather hunting gear.

Yeah we got O'Hare in Chicago about 2 hours south and General Mitchell International about 20 minutes away. I would definitely wait till spring before the leaves or fall after the leaves. My season will come to a stand still very soon I feel.
