I found these two items last weekend on my property. The first object is made of aluminum, I don't know what it is. I found it near a very old old farm shed. I'd like to know what it is, and hopefully about how old it is. The second object is some kind of brass plumbing valve (I assume it's a valve). My question about the valve is how old is it? I'm hoping based on its design someone can give me an approximate age. The valve has no stamp or engraving, and has been mangled by a plow I assume. Both of these objects were in red clay soil, hence their discoloring. Thanks for looking.

Perhaps part of something similar to this...

Your second Item is IMO antique plumbing related.

Your pic brought back memories ARC... I never smoked, but I do remember these ashtrays sitting on office desks years ago.

The 2nd item shown here looks like some sort of backflow or check valve. :icon_scratch:

Check valves are used in a wide variety of equipment, cars, planes, pneumatic and fluid systems, while backflow preventers are typically used in plumbing systems for structures. A check valve has a variety of roles but is mostly used to regulate and control the flow of fluids, especially into pumps.

Victorian Gas Light

You may have a small valve or a swivel arm piece for a gas light.
And you may have the soft metal piece to secure the glass shade?

Since so many of the glass shades were attached at three points, I'd carefully look at your round piece to see if there might be three triangulating points that might have held small screws to hold the glass. Some had a single slit, instead, with a clip ring that went around the base of the glass.

Anyway, check out Victorian Gas Lamps and lighting.
There's a huge variety, especially when you get into the chandeliers.

I should have mentioned I found these two items far away from one another. They did not come from the same localized dig site.

ARC - That ashtray you posted looks very similar indeed. I think that could be it.

Victorian Gas Light

I'm inclined to believe the brass valve could be as such, it looks similar to the photos you posted. I found this valve in area where I believe there was a house in the 1800s. I found a distributor cap from a Model-T in the same area.

Thanks everybody for your help and suggestions, very appreciated.
